Many consumer complaints websites take advantage of this in order to make money. That's right, those websites exist to make money. They are NOT there to help consumers.
Most of these websites allow anyone to post a complaint there. They do not require proof of identity. They do not require proof that the person making the complaint is telling the truth. so anyone- a former employee, a disgruntled ex, even the complaints site itself can make up any complaint they want and post it. And all of the negative thinking people on the internet can gather there and agree that yes, this indeed sounds like a ripoff and the big bad business in fact scammed the person complaining.
All the while, the complaint website makes money off of the ads that it has on its site. Or, they may charge businesses who have had complaints posted about them a fee to either take the complaint away or say that the business is good. They don't investigate. They aren't fair. And they DON'T help consumers.
